Scarlet Monastery: Cathedral – Guide for WoW Forever
The Cathedral is the last and hardest wing of the Scarlet Monastery. The leaders of the Crusade sit here: Scarlet Commander Mograine and High Inquisitor Whitemane. A little off to the side there is a third enemy, High Inquisitor Fairbanks. The game data gives the value 30 for the monastery; what exactly it means is open. Our page shows a guideline of level 35 to 45, which is the Classic value. The Cathedral is the destination of the two big monastery quests. Whoever wants to finish them needs Loksey from the Library and Herod from the Armory first.
Approach
The monastery sits at the north-eastern tip of Tirisfal Glades. The Horde rides north-east from the Undercity. For the Alliance it is a long way through Horde territory; the quest chain ends in Southshore in the Hillsbrad Foothills. Flight paths nearby are not documented for Forever. On the PvP ruleset, expect resistance.
In Classic the door to the Cathedral is locked. You open it with "The Scarlet Key" from Arcanist Doan in the Library, or a rogue picks the lock. The key still exists in the Forever client. Whether the door is still locked in Forever is not confirmed. The new "Scarlet Keyring" in the client is not explained yet either. To be safe, plan with a key or a rogue.
Quests
- Into the Scarlet Monastery (Horde, level 42, from 33): from Varimathras in the Undercity (56.3, 92.2). You are to kill Scarlet Commander Mograine and High Inquisitor Whitemane, plus Herod and Houndmaster Loksey. (In the German quest text she is still called "Hochinquisitor Whitemane"; the German client says "Hochinquisitorin Weißsträhne".) Your choice is Sword of Omen, Prophetic Cane or Dragon's Blood Necklace, plus reputation with Undercity.
- In the Name of the Light (Alliance, level 40, from 34): from Raleigh the Devout in Southshore (Hillsbrad Foothills 51.5, 58.4), with the same four targets. Your choice is Sword of Serenity, Bonebiter, Black Menace or Orb of Lorica, plus reputation with Stormwind. Before it comes the chain "Brother Anton" (Stormwind City 52.6, 43.2) and twice "Down the Scarlet Path" (Nijel's Point in Desolace, then with the Letter of Commendation to Raleigh).
- Hearts of Zeal (Horde, level 33, from 30): Master Apothecary Faranell in the Undercity (48.8, 69.3) wants 20 Hearts of Zeal. Per our data, several kinds of enemies in the monastery carry them. Which kind stands in which wing is not in our data.
Both main quests can be shared within the group. In Forever, dungeon quests give less bonus XP, the enemies give more.
The way through the Cathedral
As in Classic (not confirmed for Forever), the path first leads through a monastery garden full of Crusaders and then into the nave. More enemies stand between the pews there, and Mograine waits at the altar in front. Clear the nave thoroughly before you attack Mograine; otherwise extra enemies join the boss fight. Among the Crusaders are healers and casters. Interrupt them or kill them first.
Boss: High Inquisitor Fairbanks
In Classic, Fairbanks stands off the main path in a side room of the Cathedral. He is not a quest target, so you can skip him. In the client he comes before Whitemane in the encounter order. As in Classic (not confirmed for Forever) he is a priest: he heals himself, protects himself with a shield and can take single players out of the fight briefly. Interrupt his heals consistently and keep enough damage ready so the fight does not drag on.
Boss: Scarlet Commander Mograine and High Inquisitor Whitemane
In the client this is a single encounter under Whitemane's name. As in Classic (not confirmed for Forever), you fight Mograine first. He is a paladin in plate: he stuns targets briefly, hits hard in melee and reflects damage back to anyone who hits him in melee. At low health he shields himself briefly or heals himself fully. Keep damage and interrupts ready for that. When Mograine falls, Whitemane joins. She is a priestess who heals herself and protects herself with shields. At roughly half her health she puts the group to sleep briefly and brings Mograine back to life. After that both fight together. The tank picks up Mograine again, the rest of the group brings Whitemane down fast and interrupts her heals. Then Mograine follows a second time.
Loot
Dungeon loot is reworked in Forever; boss loot of the Cathedral is not in our data yet. What is certain are the quest rewards (stats not in our data yet):
- Tank and melee: Bonebiter (two-handed axe), Sword of Serenity and Sword of Omen (one-handed swords).
- Rogues: Black Menace (dagger, Alliance).
- Healers and casters: Prophetic Cane (Horde), Orb of Lorica (Alliance), both off-hand items.
- For everyone: Dragon's Blood Necklace (Horde).
For orientation only, as in Classic and not confirmed for Forever: in Classic, Mograine's loot included "Mograine's Might", "Aegis of the Scarlet Commander" (shield for tanks) and "Gauntlets of Divinity"; Whitemane's loot included "Hand of Righteousness" and "Triune Amulet". The names come from the Classic Era client (in our language data only as an Era supplement); they are missing from the Forever client so far. Whether they drop here in Forever, we do not know.
Tips for tank, healer and damage
Tank: Pull small groups in the garden and the nave. Position Mograine with his back to the group. After the resurrection you must bind him to you again immediately, otherwise he runs to the healer.
Healer: Mograine's stun can hit the healer too. Keep the tank topped up rather than low. Before Whitemane's sleep, heal-over-time effects on the tank are worth it because they keep working during the sleep.
Damage: Melee take damage back from Mograine. Watch your health and let the ranged do most of the work. On Whitemane, everything that interrupts her heals counts. Save cooldowns for the moment after the resurrection.
Group
One tank, one healer and three damage dealers, at least one of them with an interrupt. The Cathedral is the strongest wing of the monastery, so come at the upper end of the guideline. For the quests, the order Library, Armory, Cathedral in one evening pays off.
Before the run
Mograine and Whitemane are the final targets of “Into the Scarlet Monastery” (Horde) and “In the Name of the Light” (Alliance). (Into the Scarlet Monastery, In the Name of the Light)
