Install addons for WoW Forever
How to install WoW Forever addons with the CurseForge app or manually, find the right folder and fix the most common errors.
Before you start
- Forever has its own addons. Always pick the file for the Forever game version (client 1.60.1).
- Addons for retail or Classic don't belong in the Forever folder and often cause errors there.
- Fully restart the game after adding new addons.
/reloadonly picks up changes to addons that are already loaded.
Option 1: CurseForge app (recommended)
- Download the CurseForge app from curseforge.com and install it.
- Choose World of Warcraft. If the app can't find the game, point it to your World of Warcraft folder manually.
- Set the game version at the top to Forever. If Forever doesn't appear, launch the game once through Battle.net first so the folder gets created.
- Search for the addon under Browse and click Install. The app installs updates with one click.
Option 2: Manual install
- Open the project page on CurseForge, pick the Forever file under Files and download the ZIP file.
- Extract the ZIP file. Don't leave any ZIP files in the game folder.
- Copy the extracted folders into the Forever AddOns folder:
C:\Program Files (x86)\World of Warcraft\_classic_beta_\Interface\AddOnsOn Mac:
/Applications/World of Warcraft/_classic_beta_/Interface/AddOnsBeta path: _classic_beta_\Interface\AddOns (may change at launch).
You can find the game folder in Battle.net via the gear icon next to Play, then Show in Explorer. If the Interface or AddOns folders are missing, create them yourself.
Correct: AddOns\Questie\Questie.toc. Wrong: a nested folder like AddOns\Questie\Questie\Questie.toc.
Check in-game
- On the character select screen, click AddOns at the bottom left.
- Tick the addons you want. If they say “out of date”, enable Load out of date AddOns at the top.
- Enter the world. Many addons show a button on the minimap or have a chat command.
Common errors and fixes
- Addon missing from the list: Is it in another game version's folder (
_retail_or_classic_era_)? Did you extract the ZIP file? Is the folder nested twice? Restart the game after copying. - Wrong game version: Set Forever at the top of the CurseForge app and reinstall the addon there. Delete the copy in the wrong folder.
- “Out of date” or marked red: Enable Load out of date AddOns in the AddOns menu. Many libraries aren't marked for Forever yet but still work.
- Lua errors: Install BugSack + BugGrabber so errors are collected instead of popping up. Update the addon, disable addons one by one to find the culprit, and report the error text on the author's CurseForge page.
- Retail addons loading: There are reports that Forever also loads addons and key bindings from retail. Keep the folders separate and disable anything in the AddOns menu that isn't meant for Forever. per fan sites
- Settings lost: Known beta bug since around mid-September: settings are sometimes lost after
/reload. Back up theWTFfolder (in the same folder asInterface) and log out normally. per fan sites

Are addons allowed in WoW Forever?
Yes, addons are allowed in WoW Forever. As in retail, some combat data is off-limits to addons, so not every popular addon works.
Where is the AddOns folder for WoW Forever?
In the beta, it's at World of Warcraft\_classic_beta_\Interface\AddOns. The folder name may change at launch on Nov 4, 2026. We'll update the path here.
Which file do I pick on CurseForge?
The file marked for the Forever game version (client 1.60.1). In the CurseForge app, set the game version at the top to Forever.
Why doesn't my addon show up in the game?
Usually it's in another game version's folder, still zipped, or nested inside an extra folder. Also make sure “Load out of date AddOns” is enabled in the AddOns menu on the character select screen, and fully restart the game after adding new addons.
Is there Questie for WoW Forever?
Yes, Questie has its own Forever edition. Some new Forever quests are still missing from it.
Do damage meters and WeakAuras work in Forever?
Only partially. The combat log is locked for addons. The game has a built-in damage meter, and there's no official Forever version of WeakAuras.
Why are my addon settings gone?
In the beta, settings are sometimes lost after /reload. Back up the WTF folder regularly and log out normally to save them.
