Fishing Guide 1–300
Fishing is a secondary profession: you can learn it alongside your two primary professions. Find out where to fish at each skill level, which lures and poles help, which fish you need for Cooking and what Forever adds to fishing.
Trainers and ranks
You learn the next rank from a trainer once your character level and skill are high enough. The requirement listed is the skill you need beforehand.
| Rank | Skill | Character level | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apprentice | up to 75 | level 1+ | – |
| Journeyman | up to 150 | level 10+ | 50 |
| Expert | up to 225 | level 20+ | 125 |
| Artisan | up to 300 | level 35+ | 200 |
- You'll find Fishing trainers in every capital and many larger towns. They usually also sell a Fishing Pole and lures.
- In Classic, you learn Expert from the book Expert Fishing - The Bass and You and Artisan from a fishing quest in Dustwallow Marsh. Whether this stays the same in Forever isn't confirmed. unconfirmed
- Find Fish shows schools of fish on the minimap. The spell is in the Forever game data; Classic didn't have it. unconfirmed
Where to fish at which skill?
Every body of water has a minimum skill. Below it, many fish get away, so fish in zones that match your skill. At first every catch gives a skill-up; later you need several catches per point.
| Skill | Zones (Classic) |
|---|---|
| 1–75 | Elwynn Forest 4–10, Dun Morogh 6–21, Durotar 5–12, Mulgore 5–12, Tirisfal Glades 5–12, Teldrassil 5–11, Westfall 12–18, The Barrens 14–24, Loch Modan 14–20, Silverpine Forest 12–20, Darkshore 13–20 |
| 75–150 | Redridge Mountains 15–25, Duskwood 24–30, Wetlands 24–31, Ashenvale 22–30, Stonetalon Mountains 20–27, Hillsbrad Foothills 26–36, Thousand Needles 29–41 |
| 150–225 | Arathi Highlands 36–40, Desolace 33–40, Stranglethorn Vale 37–52, Dustwallow Marsh 35–43, Alterac Mountains 34–40, Swamp of Sorrows 35–45 |
| 225–300 | Tanaris 47–60, Feralas 44–50, The Hinterlands 45–50, Azshara 52–60, Un'Goro Crater 52–55, Felwood 55–55, Western Plaguelands 55–60 |
The highest-level waters in Classic, for example in Winterspring, Eastern Plaguelands, Silithus, Burning Steppes, require more than 300 skill; you'll need lures or a better pole for those.
This is a rough guide based on WoW Classic; exact values depend on the water. WoW Forever may differ; we'll check after launch.
Lures and poles
Lures raise your skill for 10 minutes, better poles permanently. Values as in Classic: unconfirmed
Fish and cooking recipes
Almost every fish is an ingredient for Cooking. The number shows how many recipes in our data use the fish:
New in Forever
- Seasonal Fish Steaks is a new ingredient in the beta data. unconfirmed
- The ability Bait and Tackle is also new in the game data; what exactly it does is still unclear. unconfirmed
- In Forever, food gives a small XP bonus and stats. That could make fish more sought-after while leveling than in Classic. official
Camp objects (camping)
Fishing also makes campfire objects in WoW Forever. They're in the beta data with these materials: unconfirmed
| Level | Object | Materials |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Fish Bowl | |
| 2 | Fishing Rack | |
| 3 | Fishing Hut |
The three tiers reportedly unlock at skill 20, 140 and 300, with better objects from blueprints that drop from dungeon bosses. per fan sites More: Best professions.
Gold with Fishing
- Every cook needs fish, and Cooking is a secondary profession almost everyone learns, so raw fish sells steadily.
- Fish for buff food is worth the most just before the raid launch.
- Fishing costs nothing but time and fits any combination of primary professions.
