Scarlet Monastery: Library

Tactics based on the Classic state, not confirmed in WoW Forever. Spells are named only if they appear like this in the enUS client.

Getting there. The Library belongs to the Scarlet Monastery at the north-eastern tip of Tirisfal Glades. For the game data the monastery is a single instance. The group finder therefore lists only "Scarlet Monastery". Write in your group description that you are running the Library. The Horde gets there quickly from Undercity. The Alliance has a longer way in from the south. Anyone bringing quests from Ironforge, Southshore, the Alterac Mountains or Kalimdor best plans the trip so that everything is collected in one run.

Who is it for? Our dungeon data say level 33 to 41. Loksey is level 34, Doan level 37. After the Graveyard, the Library is the second wing for many groups. In Forever, dungeon enemies give about 20 % more experience. The penalty for low-level enemies depends only on your own level. Dungeon quests give 50 % less bonus XP, but they are worth it for the rewards.

Quests before the run. The Library is the book wing. Many tasks ask for a specific volume from the shelves: - Mythology of the Titans (Alliance): from Librarian Mae Paledust in Ironforge. Reward: Explorers' League Commendation. - Compendium of the Fallen (Horde): from Sage Truthseeker in Thunder Bluff. You choose between Vile Protector, Forcestone Buckler and Omega Orb. - Test of Doctrine (Horde, quest 1160): from Parqual Fintallas in Undercity. He wants the book "Beginnings of the Undead Threat". The quest belongs to a longer chain that begins with Dorn Plainstalker in Thousand Needles. With Final Passage you then return to Dorn and choose Windstorm Hammer or Dancing Flame. - Rituals of Power (mages only): the book of the same name stands in the library of the monastery per the quest text. Hand it in to Tabetha in Dustwallow Marsh; after that the chain continues with the mage's wand. - Past Due (Alliance, new in Forever): from Magus Olvek in the Alterac Mountains. He is looking for "The Lost Magic of the Runemasters". Doan is said to have borrowed the book from Dalaran long ago and never returned it. The choice is Salve and Salvation or Knucklebound Thimble. The quest does not yet have a German title in the German client. - Into the Scarlet Monastery (Horde, Varimathras in Undercity) and In the Name of the Light (Alliance, Raleigh the Devout in Southshore): both require Houndmaster Loksey among others. The remaining targets are in the Armory and the Cathedral. The Alliance task comes from the chain Down the Scarlet Path, which starts with Brother Anton at Nijel's Point in Desolace. - Hearts of Zeal (Horde): Master Apothecary Faranell in Undercity collects hearts of the Crusaders. The Library is full of humans, so you make good progress here.

Houndmaster Loksey. Loksey stands at the end of the first long corridor. Per the tactics he calls hounds at the start of the fight. The client has Summon Scarlet Hound for this. He also buffs himself with Bloodlust, which per the client increases attack speed. The tank picks up the hounds first, then Loksey. Area damage on the hounds shortens the fight. When Bloodlust is cast, the tank needs more healing. A rogue or warrior with an interrupt stays ready.

Arcanist Doan. Doan at the end of the Library is the harder fight. Per the tactics he silences enemies near him with Silence and casts Arcane Explosion. Healers and casters therefore do not stand right next to him. At about half his health he wraps himself in a protective bubble. In the client it is called Arcane Bubble and makes him immune to all attacks. A Detonation follows. As soon as the bubble appears, everyone runs far away from him. Come back only after the explosion. The tank then pulls him back to the old spot. As in Classic he can also take single players out of the fight with Polymorph; in Forever that is not confirmed.

Loot by role. Per our data (drop chances not verified): - Casters: Illusionary Rod (two-hand staff), Mantle of Doan (shoulder, cloth) and Robe of Doan (chest, cloth) from Doan. Windweaver Staff drops from normal enemies. - Melee and hunters: Hypnotic Blade (dagger, main hand) from Doan. Loksey's Training Stick (two-hand staff), Dog Training Gloves (hands, leather) and Dog Whistle (trinket, from level 25 per the addon scan) from Loksey. - Tanks and mail wearers: Resplendent Guardian (shield) and green Scarlet mail pieces such as Scarlet Boots, plus the Cobalt Crusher (two-hand mace) and Steelclaw Reaver (axe) from normal enemies. - Quest rewards: the Compendium offers two shields and an orb (as in Classic; in our data only the Forcestone Buckler is verified as a shield). Past Due offers two pieces with Forever ID (item level 38). We have not checked their stats. - Doan also drops The Scarlet Key. In Classic it opened further parts of the monastery; for Forever that is not confirmed.

Tips for the tank. The enemies stand close together and many heal themselves or their neighbours. Pull groups one at a time and calmly, preferably around a corner so casters have to walk to you. At Doan, turn him away from the group and remember where you will bring him back to after the Detonation.

Tips for the healer. At Doan, stay out of range of Silence and Arcane Explosion. Keep mana ready for the time after the bubble, when everyone runs back in. At Loksey the tank needs noticeably more healing under Bloodlust.

Tips for damage. Interrupt the healing Crusaders first, then everything goes much faster. Control effects such as Polymorph, Sap or Hibernate (against the hounds, as in Classic) take pressure off the tank. Area damage pays off against the hounds. At Doan, running away quickly counts more than one last spell.

Group. One tank, one healer and three damage dealers with two interrupts if possible. Mages, rogues and druids bring control. Because quest books and hearts lie close together here, the Library is worth it for almost every class. Plan enough time for searching the books.
