Scarlet Monastery: Graveyard

Dungeon for level 30–38 (per Classic) · minimum level 30 per game data (for the whole monastery) · Tirisfal Glades

Player shorthand: SM GY

The Graveyard wing of the Scarlet Monastery in Tirisfal Glades, the first wing for most groups, levels 30–38.

Tactics based on the Classic state, not confirmed in WoW Forever. Spells are named only if they appear like this in the enUS client.

Getting there. The Scarlet Monastery sits at the very top of the north-east of Tirisfal Glades, a zone of the Forsaken. For the Horde the way from Undercity or Brill is short. The Alliance travels in from the south via Hillsbrad Foothills and Silverpine Forest and has to expect Horde guards in Tirisfal (as in Classic, not confirmed for Forever). The Crusade holds the whole grounds, so you best walk to the monastery building together. The entrances to the wings are there. In the game data the monastery is a single instance ("Scarlet Monastery"). The group finder also has only this one entry. So write in your group description that you are running the Graveyard.

Who is it for? Our dungeon data say level 30 to 38, the bosses have level 32 to 34. As in Classic, the Graveyard counts as the shortest wing and is the entry into the monastery for many groups. In Forever, dungeon enemies give about 20 % more experience than before. The penalty for enemies that are too low depends only on your own level. Dungeon quests, on the other hand, give 50 % less bonus XP. They are still worth it, above all for the rewards.

Quests. For the Horde there are two tasks. Hearts of Zeal you get from Master Apothecary Faranell in Undercity. He wants 20 Hearts of Zeal, dropped by the Crusaders in the monastery. You do not have to collect them all in one evening. Vorrel's Revenge you pick up inside the dungeon, from Vorrel Sengutz, a captive Forsaken. Interrogator Vishas took his wedding ring and gave it to his wife. So the ring is not in the monastery. You fetch it from Nancy Vishas at Lordamere Lake and bring it to Monika Sengutz in Tarren Mill (Hillsbrad Foothills). As a reward you choose Mantle of Woe or Grimsteel Cape, and you also get Vorrel's Boots. For the Alliance our data have no quest of its own in the Graveyard. The Alliance monastery quests lead into the Library, Armory and Cathedral.

Interrogator Vishas. Vishas is the first boss. Per our tactics he puts Shadow Word: Pain on his targets, a shadow damage-over-time effect. Priests can remove the effect with Dispel Magic if the healer has too much to do. The paladin's Cleanse is only available from level 42 per the client, so not in this level range. The fight itself is short. The tank turns Vishas away from the group, the damage dealers stay on him. Do not pull new enemies during the fight.

The rare enemies. Three enemies do not appear in every run. In the client they have no encounter of their own. Azshir the Sleepless is the most dangerous for the group. The tactics mention fear and life drain; in the client Terrify (one target flees in fear) and Soul Siphon (life drain that heals the caster) match this. A priest protects the tank with Fear Ward, a shaman places a Tremor Totem. Take him down quickly so the life drain does not run for long. Fallen Champion is a melee fighter who weakens his targets. The tank holds him in place, cloth wearers keep their distance, the healer makes up for the damage. Ironspine uses a Poison Cloud. Per the client it deals nature damage over time to nearby enemies. Whoever stands in the cloud steps out at once. The tank pulls Ironspine a little out of the cloud so the melee can keep attacking.

Bloodmage Thalnos. Thalnos waits at the end of the wing. He casts fire and shadow spells and lets out a Fire Nova that hits everyone near him. The client also has Flame Shock and Flame Spike for him. That Thalnos uses them is as in Classic, but not confirmed for Forever. Interrupt his casts with Kick, Pummel, Earth Shock or Counterspell. If health gets low after a nova, the melee steps back briefly. Ranged players stay out of range of the nova.

Loot by role. Our data list this loot (drop chances are not verified): - Casters: Bloodmage Mantle (shoulder, cloth) and Orb of the Forgotten Seer (held in off-hand) from Thalnos. Blighted Leggings (legs, cloth), Necrotic Wand and Ghostshard Talisman (neck) from Azshir. Embalmed Shroud (head, cloth) from the Fallen Champion. - Healers with shield: Painwalker Buckler from Vishas. Per our addon scan it has spell damage, healing and stamina and can be worn from level 29. - Leather: Trapper's Leather Helm (Vishas or Fallen Champion), Ebon Vise (hands) from the Fallen Champion. - Mail: Ironspine's Ribcage (chest) from Ironspine. Per the addon, Thalnos drops a mail helmet that so far only has the addon name "Polished Skullcap". The Crusade drops green mail pieces such as Scarlet Chestpiece, Scarlet Belt or Scarlet Leggings. - Weapons: Torturing Poker (dagger) and Bloody Brass Knuckles (fist weapon) from Vishas, Morbid Dawn (two-hand sword) from the Fallen Champion, Ironspine's Fist (mace) and Ironspine's Eye (ring) from Ironspine. - Leatherworkers: Pattern: Defender's Leather Kilt from Thalnos.

Tips for the tank. In the Graveyard the undead often come in groups. Gather them at one point so area damage hits them all. If you are without fear protection, stand with your back to a wall at Azshir so you do not run into new enemies after a fear.

Tips for the healer. Keep mana ready for spikes at Vishas and Thalnos. At Azshir a shield on the fear target helps. Shamans bring the Tremor Totem, priests the Fear Ward.

Tips for damage. Area damage pays off against the undead groups. At Thalnos, interrupts matter more than your own damage. Watch where you stand at Fire Nova and Poison Cloud. A dead damage dealer does not help the group.

Group. One tank, one healer and three damage dealers are ideal, at least one of them with an interrupt. A priest or shaman against fear makes the rare enemies clearly easier. The Graveyard is short. If time allows, attach it to a run through the Library; Horde players keep collecting hearts along the way.
