Mining Guide 1–300
Mining is the gathering profession for ore and stone. See which ore you can mine at each skill level, where the nodes were in Classic, every smelting recipe from the game data and what the bars are used for.
Trainers and ranks
You learn the next rank from a trainer once your character level and skill are high enough. The requirement listed is the skill you need beforehand.
| Rank | Skill | Character level | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apprentice | up to 75 | level 1+ | – |
| Journeyman | up to 150 | level 10+ | 50 |
| Expert | up to 225 | level 20+ | 125 |
| Artisan | up to 300 | level 35+ | 200 |
- You'll find Mining trainers in every capital and many larger towns.
- In Classic, you need a Mining Pick in your bags to mine; Trade Supplies vendors sell it. unconfirmed
- Find Minerals shows ore nodes on the minimap. You get the spell when you learn the profession.
- Starting zones reportedly have junior trainers and a quest where you choose a handbook for Mining, Herbalism or Skinning (2 skill points each, up to 15). per fan sites
Ore nodes by skill
As in Classic, nodes follow a color rule: up to 25 points above the minimum skill they're orange and always give a skill-up, up to 50 above yellow, up to 100 above green, and beyond that gray with no skill-ups.
Minimum skill and zones follow WoW Classic. Nodes may be distributed differently in WoW Forever; we'll check after launch. The number after a profession is how many recipes use the ore or its bar.

| Level | Object | Materials |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Lodestone | |
| 2 | Rock Garden | |
| 3 | Molten Foundry |

Gold with Mining
- Copper Ore, Tin Ore and Bronze Bar are scarce after every fresh launch because everyone levels Blacksmithing and Engineering at the same time. In the first week, sell ore and bars rather than crafted items.
- Blacksmithing and Engineering need stone from nodes (Rough Stone, Coarse Stone, Heavy Stone) for sharpening stones, weightstones and explosives.
- Bars often sell better than ore because buyers save time. Compare prices before you smelt.
- The profession factions' supply crates ask for early bars and leather, which keeps demand high. per fan sites

FAQ
How do I level Mining to 300 fastest?
Always mine ore that's still orange or yellow for your skill, and smelt in between. Roughly: Copper Ore to 65, Tin Ore to 125, Iron Ore to 175, Mithril Ore to 245, then Thorium Ore.
Which profession goes well with Mining?
Blacksmithing and Engineering turn bars and stone into items. Mining is worth it on its own too, since ore always sells on the AH.
Do I need a Mining Pick?
In Classic, yes: it has to be in your bags. It's not confirmed yet whether WoW Forever will change this.
At what level can I learn Mining?
Apprentice at character level 1, Journeyman at 10, Expert at 20 and Artisan at 35, each with enough skill.
