Rogue Gold Guide for WoW Forever: Pick Pocket, Boxes and Poisons
How to make gold as a Rogue in WoW Forever: Pick Pocket and junkboxes by level, lockboxes for other players, what poisons and lockpicks are worth to a vendor, which gathering professions fit and what the junkbox quest in Ravenholdt gives you. All prices come from the game data, the tips from experience with WoW Classic.
- Pick Pocket: level 4+
- Junkboxes: 4
- Lockboxes: 9
- Best lockbox price: 5s
In short
- Rob every suitable enemy before you attack. Pick Pocket takes only seconds and gives coins, vendor trash and junkboxes.
- You open junkboxes yourself with Lockpicking. The gold is in the contents, not the box itself.
- Other players bring you their lockboxes. That gives you skill and often a tip.
- Poisons cost gold instead of making it: the vendor pays less for the finished poison than the ingredients cost.
- Gathering professions fit best: Herbalism, Mining, Skinning.
Pick Pocket as a gold source
From level 4 you can rob humanoid enemies while in Stealth. The theft rolls on its own loot table, and you still get the normal loot when you kill them. The higher the enemy, the better the junkbox:
| Box | Lock | Enemies |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | from about level 20 | |
| 70 | from about level 30 | |
| 175 | from about level 40 | |
| 250 | from about level 50 |
Enemies column: rough guide based on the box's item level. Lock column: required skill as in WoW Classic. According to the game data, junkboxes have no vendor price. unconfirmed
- Camps with lots of humanoids close together pay best: bandits, pirates, cultists. Enemies at your level carry the matching boxes.
- Grey vendor trash from pockets goes straight to the vendor. Whatever is in the boxes you sell to a vendor or on the Auction House, depending on its value.

What our addon data shows
- There aren't enough contributions yet. As soon as at least 20 events have been reported, you'll see here how many coins a pickpocket and a junkbox give on average.
The figures come from contributions made with our addons, kept separate for pickpocketing and box contents. Join in: Contribute data.
Lockpicking for other players
Lockboxes drop as loot from enemies. Other classes can't open them without help, and that's where you come in. These lockboxes are in the game data:
| Lockbox | Skill | Item level | Vendor price |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 20 | 50 | |
| 25 | 25 | 70 | |
| 70 | 30 | 87 | |
| 125 | 35 | 110 | |
| 175 | 40 | 150 | |
| 225 | 45 | 2 | |
| 225 | 50 | 250 | |
| 225 | 55 | 375 | |
| 225 | 60 | 5 |
Vendor price: what the vendor pays for the locked box according to the game data. Skill: required Lockpicking as in WoW Classic.
- Offer your services in the trade channel or your guild. Anyone with a lockbox would rather have you open it than sell it for a few copper.
- It's done through the trade window: the other player puts the lockbox in the bottom slot (will not be traded), you pick it there, and they get it back opened.
- In WoW Classic a small tip was customary. How much is up to the lockbox owner.
- Each lockbox also gives you Lockpicking points as long as its lock isn't too easy for you.
Poison reagents vs. vendor prices
Is it worth making and selling poisons? The table compares the ingredients at vendor price with what the vendor pays for the finished poison. You lose gold on 21 of 21 poisons.
| Poison | Level | Ingredients | Vendor price |
|---|---|---|---|
| 20 | 54 | 13 | |
| 20 | 24 | 5 | |
| 24 | 74 | 18 | |
| 28 | 1 | 20 | |
| 30 | 140 | 30 | |
| 32 | 190 | 42 | |
| 34 | 5 | 375 | |
| 36 | 140 | 30 | |
| 38 | 240 | 55 | |
| 38 | 320 | 75 | |
| 40 | 290 | 67 | |
| 44 | 7 | 75 | |
| 46 | 8 | 1 | |
| 48 | 9 | 125 | |
| 50 | 11 | 175 | |
| 52 | 8 | 1 | |
| 52 | 11 | 175 | |
| 54 | 10 | 150 | |
| 56 | 11 | 175 | |
| 60 | 9 | 125 | |
| 60 | 12 | 150 |
Ingredients: vendor price of all reagents and the vial for one craft, without reputation discount. Vendor price: what the vendor pays for the result. All prices come from the beta game data (client version 1.60.1).
- Poisons are an expense, not income. Only make what you need yourself, and buy ingredients for several crafts at once.
- Deathweed and Fadeleaf are herbs. If you find them while gathering you save buying them; sell any extras on the Auction House.
- All poisons with rank, training level and reagents: Rogue poisons.
Lockpicks and practice lock
Blacksmiths make lockpicks and engineers make the practice lock. For you as a Rogue they're both competition and practice material. Here's how materials and results compare at the vendor:
| Item | Profession | Material | Vendor price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Silver Skeleton Key | Blacksmithing 70 | 15 | 1 × 2 |
| Truesilver Skeleton Key | Blacksmithing 170 | 1450 | 1250 × 2 |
| Arcanite Skeleton Key | Blacksmithing 245 | 52 | 1250 × 2 |
| Practice Lock | Engineering 110 | 99 | 12 |
Material: vendor price of the materials for one craft. Vendor price: what the vendor pays for all items made (× quantity). The number after the profession is the skill at which the recipe can be learned.
- Anyone who buys a lockpick doesn't need you. With high skill you're still the cheaper option, because you don't use up any materials.
- For you, the practice lock is mainly a way to your first Lockpicking points. It's no good for selling to a vendor.
Combining with gathering professions
- Based on experience from WoW Classic, two gathering professions make the most gold while levelling. Choose from Herbalism, Mining, Skinning, and sell what you gather on the Auction House.
- Herbalism also gives you herbs for your poisons and for Blind.
- Based on experience from WoW Classic: in Stealth you can slip past enemies to herbs and ore that others have to fight their way to. Gathering itself makes you visible.
- Skinning is a weaker fit because beasts have no pockets. If you hunt a lot of beasts, it still pays well.

Ravenholdt: the junkbox quest
In Ravenholdt (Alterac Mountains), Fahrad trades
Dusksteel Throwing Knife for 5 × Heavy Junkbox.
- Quest: Junkboxes Needed, from level 50.
- Reputation: +50 with Ravenholdt, -250 with Syndicate.
- You get Heavy Junkbox with Pick Pocket from high-level enemies; opening it requires Lockpicking 250.
- The quest doesn't give gold directly. You trade boxes for throwing knives and reputation; if you'd rather open the boxes, you keep the contents.
Objectives and reward come from our quest data (WoW Classic); whether the quest stays the same in WoW Forever is not yet confirmed. unconfirmed
