How to use poisons
- Open the Poisons window from your spellbook and craft the poison. The reagents must be in your bags.
- Right-click the poison, then click your weapon in the character window. Main Hand and Off Hand each get their own poison.
- The poison lasts for a limited time and a limited number of hits. Reapply it before every bigger fight.
- Each craft can raise your Poisons skill as long as the recipe isn't grey. Higher ranks need more skill.

| IV | 56 | 305 / 355 | 2 × Essence of Agony 2 × Deathweed 1 × Crystal Vial |
Blinding Powder
Not a weapon poison: the powder is the reagent for Blind. Each craft makes several.
| Poison | Level | Yellow / grey | Reagents |
|---|---|---|---|
| 34 | 170 / 220 | 1 × Fadeleaf |
Level: the character level at which the Rogue trainer teaches you the recipe. Yellow / grey: from this Poisons skill on, crafting gives points less often or not at all. All values come from the beta game data (client version 1.60.1).
Which poison for what?
| Use | Main Hand | Off Hand |
|---|---|---|
| Leveling | Instant Poison | Instant Poison → Deadly Poison |
| Dungeons & raids | Instant Poison | Deadly Poison |
| PvP against melee | Crippling Poison | Instant Poison |
| PvP against healers | Wound Poison | Mind-numbing Poison |
- Leveling: Instant Poison gets you through short fights quickly. Deadly Poison is worth it on the slower weapon once fights last longer.
- Dungeons and raids: damage is what counts. The fast weapon usually carries Instant Poison, the second one Deadly Poison.
- PvP: Crippling Poison keeps enemies in place, Wound Poison takes healing away from healers, Mind-numbing Poison slows spells. Which poison goes on which weapon depends on your opponent.
- You need Blinding Powder for Blind. Always keep a few in your bags.

Buying ingredients
According to the game data, you get reagents from poison vendors and shady dealers. In WoW Classic they're in the capital cities, usually near the Rogue trainers. Column "from level": from this level you need the ingredient for a poison; column "Poisons": how many recipes use it.
| Ingredient | from level | Poisons | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| 20 | 5 | Reagent | |
| 20 | 3 | Vial | |
| 20 | 4 | Reagent | |
| 28 | 7 | Vial | |
| 30 | 9 | Reagent | |
| 34 | 1 | Herb | |
| 36 | 5 | Reagent | |
| 44 | 10 | Vial | |
| 48 | 4 | Reagent |
- Vials get better with level: Empty Vial for the first poisons, Leaded Vial from the middle ranks, Crystal Vial for the highest.
- Fadeleaf is an herb. You gather it with Herbalism or buy it at the Auction House.
- Buy reagents for several crafts at once. It saves trips back to town.
- We'll add where the poison vendors are in WoW Forever from our addon data. Until then, the Rogue class trainers page can help.
Leveling Poisons
- The skill only goes up when you craft. Orange recipes always give a point, yellow ones usually, green ones rarely, grey ones never.
- Always craft the highest rank you already know. Once the recipe is yellow, you no longer get a point every time you craft.
- The tables above show for each poison at which skill it turns yellow and grey. The highest recipes only turn grey at 375, so they give you points all the way to the cap.
- As with Lockpicking, the cap is five times your character level, at most 300.
More poisons in the game data
The game data also contains these poisons. In WoW Classic they only existed in Season of Discovery, unlocked through runes. Whether and how they can be obtained in WoW Forever is still open. unconfirmed
