• Enchants go directly onto gear. Here you make most of your gold from other players' orders. from Classic
• Disenchanting gear yields mats that other enchanters buy. Rods and oils can also be sold to a vendor. from Classic
• The vendor price is the floor: in-demand items usually sell for a lot more on the Auction House. Check current Auction House prices before crafting in bulk. from Classic
• While leveling a profession, the mats usually cost more than the results bring in. Your real gold comes from the recipes other players actually need. from Classic

Recipes with Vendor Profit

How we calculate it: the vendor price of the result (times the number made per craft) minus what the mats themselves would sell for at a vendor. A positive profit means crafting and vendoring earns more than vendoring the mats directly.

22 of 40 recipes with a vendor price turn a profit, 18 don't. If you buy mats from a vendor or the Auction House, you pay more than their vendor price. So the profit shown is a floor for vendoring, not an Auction House price.
